Myconian Ambassador

Of all the starry Cycladic settings, Mykonos takes the party prize; especially if you’re staying at the Myconian Ambassador.

Dominating the hillside of one of Mykonos’ most famed shorelines, Platis Gialos, the Myconian Ambassador offers sea-facing serenity and mod-Mykonian charm in spades. It manages to effortlessly blend a contemporary chic style with natural elements and local traditions, making it stand out from the crowds of sugar cube-style villas beneath it.

Despite the vast size of the Hotel, there are only 70 guest rooms; all of which feature prime Aegean sea views. As a Relais & Châteaux affiliated property, the Ambassador is one of nine luxury Myconian Collection Hotels run by a local Myconian family. While living up to the most elevated hospitality standards and embracing family values, they welcome guests with warmth and attentiveness, and ensure that all guests experience the ultimate luxury getaway.

LOCATION

The tranquillity of being away from the island’s party pulse is a plus for many luxury travellers to Mykonos. With that being said, the Ambassador is conveniently located for everything the island offers. A three minute walk brings you to the famous broad, sandy Platis Gialos beach with its cafés, sunbed rentals, watersports and boat trips. If you follow the coastal paths, you’ll arrive at some of Mykonos’ most celebrated beach clubs – Cavo Paradiso, Namos and Skorpios in just 15 to 25 minutes. The Ambassador is only a short stroll across to Psarou, with its super yachts at anchor, or to Paranga’s lively small tavernas frequented by the locals. You’re only ten minutes away from the windmills and Mykonos Town’s chic shops and the Ambassador also has a private launch which can take its guests to the ruins of ancient Delos or Rhenia’s hidden coves.

HOW TO GET HERE

The Ambassador is located in Platis Gialos near the main road connecting the beach with Mykonos Town, making it accessible by car, bus, or taxi. It is approximately 7.5 km from the Mykonos ferry port in Tourlos, and 3.5 km from the Mykonos Airport to the hotel. The Ambassador offers a complimentary arrival and departure transfer service (to and from the Mykonos seaport  or airport) in an air-conditioned minibus on all bookings that are made directly through the Hotel’s website, which you can find below.

THE AMBASSADOR EXPERIENCE

The Ambassador has long been the designer destination of choice for jet-set romantics. It has an uncanny knack for making your worldly worries fade into the distance, I mean, the most strenuous decision you’ll have to make during your holiday is whether to spend the day by the pool or beach. Tough choice right? After all, the Ambassador is perched high above the most serene stretch of sand on the island, Platis Gialos, and it has one of the most alluring sea-facing poolsides we’ve seen in Greece, with the comfiest lounge chairs and in-water seating that’s perfect for sipping cocktails in the sunshine.

Once you’ve chilled out by the pool, strolled through Mykonos Town and indulged in a massage  in the Ambassador’s Thalasso Spa, it’ll hopefully be dark and you can join in with Mykonos’ legendary nightlife. The famous, celebrity-favoured Nammos Beach Club and Scorpios are right next-door so you won’t have far to stagger back home afterwards.

Let’s face it: you’ve probably come to the Cyclades because of their famous whitewashed churches and bright blue backdrops. Head to the old monastery vineyard at Mykonos Vioma Organic Farm for a seriously good wine-and-cheese setting. Psarou Beach is at your fingertips,  and if you fancy going a little further afield, drop in for a dip at Agios Sostis or, if you’ve got the boat required to reach it, head to Fragia Beach.

SUITES & ACCOMMODATIONS

There are 70 rooms and suites ranging across a collection of whitewashed one and two-storey buildings. The decor and interiors are sophisticated, streamlined, light-filled: lots of white marble, with Jean-Michel Basquiat and Picasso-esque artwork adding pops of colour. Lavender-blend scent permeates the hotel. Luxury is in every aspect detail at the Ambassador, with designer fittings, showers by Vola and Grohe, and an assortment of Korres and Molton Brown bathroom products. Each guest room has a contemporary open living feel, with large doors that open out onto a private balcony or terrace with endless views of the Aegean. Sophistication and comfort are invested in every detail of the interiors and decor. From white marble floors and floating shelves to subtle touches of classic blues, softened by wood accents and luxe mood lighting.

After being shown to our Thalassa Suite with a terrace and private outdoor jacuzzi, we couldn't have been happier. Outstretched before us in our own room perched high above the Aegean was everything you could dream of for a loved-up holiday. A huge white bed with crisp dove-white linen, a pillow menu, block-out shutters, a cylinder shaped rainfall shower that reminded us of a space capsule, a magnificent white terrace overlooking the Ambassador pool and Platis Gialos below and sun loungers to watch the sun disappear. The pièce de resistance? A magnificent private bubbling jacuzzi set to the perfect temperature.

FOR THE FOODIES

The Ambassador’s Efisia restaurant is a sleek nautical styled restaurant that is wrapped around the large pool in an L-shape and features panoramic ocean views from every angle. It is the Hotel’s signature, fine dining restaurant and offers a fusion of traditional Greek cuisine mixed with contemporary techniques and local produce. The Ambassador has loyal ties to the island's local farmers and fisherman, some going back three generations, so all of the ingredients, herbs, seafood and vegetables used are grown and caught exclusively for the Myconian Collection restaurants. Efisia provides guests with the option of an à la carte or dégustation menu, and is open for lunch and dinner.

If you fancy an apéritif, George’s Bar offers light fare, refreshing cocktails, juices, and delicious smoothies from noon. Breakfast is served between 7:30am-10:30am and you can indulge in a complimentary champagne breakfast buffet and cook-to-order eggs.
